On November 26th, 2018, I had the great honor and pleasure to meet and talk with jazz guitarist, composer, arranger, producer and educator Freddie Bryant (US) in the Prins Claus Conservatorium (PCC) in Groningen, The Netherlands, where Freddie is also a teacher of the program "New York comes to Groningen", initiated by Joris Teepe, head of the jazz department of the PCC.
As a born New York citizen, Freddie Bryant really knows, what's going on in the big apple's jazz scene. He currently works next to his own groups also with Ben Riley and the Mingus Orchestra mostly. He has recorded and or played with legends like Salif Keita, Tom Harrell, Steve Wilson, Kevin Hays, Brad Mehldau, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Randy Brecker, Joshua Redman, Wynton Marsalis, Lonnie Smith, Eliane Elias, Billy Drumond, Ira Coleman, Eddie Henderson and many others.
For Heather White's documentary "Complicit" from 2017 he as a Music director composed and played the awesome sound track.
And, not to forget, he is also a educator, teaching regular on the guitar faculties of the Berklee College of Music and the PCC in Groningen, with a focus on master classes that focus on repertoire, improvisation and performance and especially classes in Brazilian jazz for all instruments and classical music guitarists.
In Groningen on a November monday afternoon I met Freddie Bryant after his classes and unexpected he also brought his guitar for demonstrating some music as well.
Please, enjoy a very special one-hour talk and lecture with Freddie Bryant!
