On March 12th I had a very delighting interview at the Prins Claus Conservatorium, especially the Jazz department, in Groningen/The Netherlands. Some month earlier I met the saxophonist and educator Don Braden (US) in the entrance hall of the same department and asked him, if he would be interested to have an interview with me. “Of course!” he said. “But next year!” Then this “next year” arrived and after some beautiful email conversations in between we met for having a very delighting talk. Just to give you some short information:
Don Braden is a Jazz musician with many amazing qualities in his pocket. For more than 30 years he toured around our planet, leading his own ensembles and as a special guest and sideman with artists like Betty Carter, Wynton Marsalis, Freddie Hubbard, Tony Williams, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Tom Harrell, The Mingus Big Band, The Dizzy Gillespie All Stars, Geri Allen, Roy Haynes, Art Hirahara, Gene Jackson, Billy Childs, Cecil Brooks III, Matt Wilson, Joris Teepe and many many more. He recorded until this moment 21 CD's as a leader and more than 80 as a sideman. As an educator he spent for more than 20 years giving master classes around the world and running amazing educational programs such as the Litchfield Jazz Camp, the NJPAC's Wells Fargo Jazz For Teens, the Harvard University Monday Jazz Band and the Prins Claus Conservatorium Groningen within the outstanding program “New York Comes To Groningen”. Please enjoy our really refreshing one hour talk!
