Am very happy to present another video interview I recently had with Aurora Hentunen in my livingroom in Groningen. Aurora Hentunen is a pianist and composer, born in Lappeenranta, Finland and currently living in Amsterdam (NL).
Beginning of October she had an incredible performance with her quartet in Groningen's Jazz Stage no. 1, De Smederij. There she presented her new album "Second Spring" with Joona Kilponen on trumpet, Veli-Matti Silantera on double bass and electric bass, Ville Luukkonen on drums and as a guest performer, Sebastiano Terzuolo on saxophone.
Many thanks to Diederik Idema for booking this very special band!
Her debut album "Second Spring" was released this year April and received already many excellent reviews. Next to the Conservatory in Amsterdam she also studied as an exchange student at the Prins Claus Conservatory in Groningen, where she enjoyed teachers like Jasper van't Hof, Harmen Fraanje, Marc van Roon, Adam Nussbaum, Matt Wilson, Spike Wilner, David Berkman, Kevin Hays and many more.
Her album is fascinating related to so called "Nordic Jazz" as even influenced by Scandinavian melodies.
Aurora Hentunen’s music contains a lot of references from Northern Jazz and melodies from Scandinavian folk music. Her music has been described as very compositional and the band as distinctive, led by mature young musicians. The band is considered as one of the rising stars in the Northern Jazz scene.
"Very atmospheric, yet driven. Modern and timeless. Love the merge of styles, which I find that is done with thoughtfulness and sensitivity." -Petros Klampanis
Please enjoy my video-interview with Aurora Hentunen, in two parts!
